Longjumeau (pronounced [lɔ̃ʒymo]) is a French commune situated nineteen kilometres south of Paris in the département of Essonne, in the Île-de-France region. It is the chief town of the canton de Longjumeau. A Gallo-Roman villa rustica established at the mouth of the valley of the Yvette, it later became a trading town and a seigneury that changed hands many times along the important road from Paris to Orléans, chosen to become a canton chief town as early as 1790 and an important judicial centre of Seine-et-Oise, and retained in those functions within the recent département of Essonne.
