From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the Pédaguès, a former designation replaced in the 21st century by the geographical name Terrefort ariégeois, made up of the terreforts of Pamiers and Saverdun, on the left bank of the Ariège. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Arize, the ruisseau de l'Argain, the ruisseau de Montbrun and various other small watercourses.
