On 1st January 2019, the town merged with the neighbouring communes of Tillou, Crézières, and La Bataille, with the town of Chef-Boutonne as the central commune. It is the chef-lieu of the Canton de Chef-Boutonne and of the Communauté de communes du Cœur du Poitou, which today forms part of the four communities making up the Communauté de communes Mellois en Poitou as one of the sub-seats, sharing this position with Celles-sur-Belle, Brioux-sur-Boutonne, and Sauzé-entre-Bois.
