Its inhabitants are known as the Bourcefrançais or Chapusais and the Bourcefrançaises or Chapusaises. A recently created commune, born in 1908 from the merger of several hamlets of which the two principal ones are Bourcefranc and Le Chapus, it nonetheless possesses a rich history and a diverse urban and maritime heritage.
