It lies on the south-western outskirts of Angers and forms part of the communauté urbaine Angers Loire Métropole. It is the union of three villages, that of Pruniers, the bourg of Bouchemaine and the village of la Pointe, and stands at the confluence of the river Loire and the river Maine, an area subject to flooding in the winter period, and within the Val de Loire inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
