Historically, the commune is attached to the former province of Dauphiné but also to the comté de Sermorens, a domain situated at the exit of the cluse de l'Isère, at the foot of the massif de la Chartreuse and at the extremity of the diocèse de Vienne. The commune has been a member of the Communauté du Pays Voironnais since the creation of that authority in 2000.
