Chamrousse is a French commune situated geographically at altitude in the Alps at the southern end of the Belledonne range, above the Grésivaudan valley and the Grenoble conurbation, administratively in the département of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and formerly attached to the ancient province of Dauphiné. Chamrousse is a tourist resort, primarily for winter sports, having hosted the alpine skiing events of the 1968 Winter Olympic Games. It is the birthplace of skiing in France (1878).
