Formed by the merger by decree of the communes of Rémire and Montjoly in 1969, Remire-Montjoly forms part of the residential suburbs of Cayenne. Its inhabitants are known as the Rémire-Montjoliens.
A little history
Pre-Columbian remains have been discovered on the territory of the commune. In 2019, thousands of fragments were unearthed. These could be human remains that were contained within a funerary urn. Several pieces of ceramics caught the attention of scientists. On one of them appears a motif that could be a symbol, and the second depicts half of a face.
